Slightly Insane Mom

"All mothers are slightly insane." –J.D. Salinger

About Me

Hi, I’m Molly. I’m a Midwestern mama with a husband, three kids, a dog, two cats, and a fish hamster hamster. I have five tattoos and counting. I consider myself a geek. And for added fun, I’m bipolar. I’m a rebel with a minivan.

I have lots of opinions. Sometimes I’m funny, sometimes I’m a big ol’ crankypants. Think of me as the Walter Matthau of mom bloggers, I guess.

The name of the blog? That comes from my favorite book, The Catcher in the Rye. I don’t know about other moms, but the quote certainly holds true here–“all mothers are slightly insane.” I won’t tell you that being a mom is the most important job on earth, or the hardest. But I will say that every day requires me to maintain a narrow foothold on the edge of sanity. Coffee helps. So does Xanax.

On a serious note, I was diagnosed with PPD (post-partum depression) after the birth of my daughter, Little Miss Sunshine, in 2007. Since then, I have struggled with depression and anxiety. In 2016, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I talk openly about mental health issues because I believe that encouraging dialogue will reduce the stigma attached to these conditions.

I blog because I’ve been told I’m funny, and a few friends have encouraged me to nurture my talents. And also, because it’s cheaper than therapy. Although I need that too. I hope you enjoy my ramblings.
